Chikka Week #5b — This was a triumph

“Hey, put me down!”  “Are you still there?”

Stomping out bugs

We haven’t finished fixing our project last Wednesday, though Diel and Aica already finished theirs by that day and were just waiting for their work to be checked.  Unfortunately, sir Joel was very busy, so we have to wait until Monday.

It took me and Iehl up to around Friday afternoon to fix and polish our project a bit more.  The work wasn’t hard, it’s just that it required a more thorough thought because of a design flaw sir Joel pointed out that we needed to fix.  Modifying this had the potential to affect some a few functions so we had to test it a lot.  By Friday afternoon we finished it, and Iehl had to go for their weekly reporting at UPM again.

Ranking up the social links

There weren’t really any things to do after I finished our stuff, since we have to wait for sir Joel.

Last Friday I found out why Diel insisted on having her phone alarm like every hour, and it was actually a reminder that she needed to give her eyes a rest because her eyesight is pretty bad (200 or 300 something something).  I treated her to a cup at Starbucks, because at that point I did promise her a cup for scanning my elementary and high school pics (to post on Facebook).  She went for a hot latte, I went for cold, and I wish I got the hot one because the taste was pretty… eh?  I’ve had cold coffee before though, but I guess I’m used to coffee with sugar and cream.  Yes, I know there’s some sort of mixing counter at Starbucks, but I’ve never used it, and I’m pretty shy to do so, because I might be doing something wrong.  Someone please teach me!  D:

Went back up and asked them about the new batch of pictures we needed to take.  Iehl already left (she was already late anyway), so it’s just us three.  We were supposed to only have a pic taken with sir Jojo (our tech support guy), but everyone was in a jolly mood that he pulled a lot of other people with him.  XD

Do ho ho,  you mean I actually passed a week without having a single picture taken with my eyes closed?  Amazing!

Blurry vision?  Speak of the devil.

Remember how I debated what I should buy using the allowance I earned?  HDD, RAM or tablet.  I decided on none of the above.

I got home, booted up my PC and got baffled at how I never noticed how blurry my 17″ CRT has already become.  It’s so damn blurry it’s kinda irritating to read text on it.  My monitor is 5 years old anyway, so I decided to look for a nice LCD replacement.  After a lot of searching, I decided on an LG W2043T.  I think it’s such a fantastic deal, since it’s 20″, has 5ms refresh rate, and supports up to 1600×900.  Plus, I’ve seen the bigger version of this and it looked great.  I still don’t have enough money to buy one, but after my OJT, I’m sure I’ll have enough money to treat myself to a spanking new LCD.  I can’t wait to play my games on almost 1080p.

Irrelevant but interesting

Because I really don’t have anything else to write about, just gonna mention here that Valve, one of the leading PC game developers, finally launched Steam for Macs.  Steam is the premier digital distributor of PC games, which finally found its way on Apple’s operating systems.  To commemorate this event, Valve is handing out free copies of Portal for both PC and Mac users!  That’s right, free!  But it’s only available up to May 24.  You can still play it after that date, you just need to make sure to purchase the game for $0.00 before the said date.  Just install Steam then install Portal.

For those who aren’t familiar with Portal, it’s a 3D puzzle game where you have to shoot two portals which are connected to each other, which won over 70 “Game of the Year” awards, even if it’s just part of The Orange Box.  The game makes ingenious use of this concept in order to incorporate stuff such as momentum in order to beat puzzles, and generally takes only a few hours to beat, unless you’re very bad at puzzles.

Thanks to this, I finally have all 5 games bundled in the Orange Box on my Steam account, even though it’s just TF2 I just bought.  <_<

(And yes, this part is the reason behind the title)

New CS197 topic?  WOW!

UPD finally offers a subject that is the sole reason why I even took computer science.  The professor is still TBA, but I have something to look forward to once the next semester starts.  I wonder who will be teaching though.

What’s the topic about?  My rambling above should already give you an idea.  CAN’T WAIT!

  1. The only proper way to drink coffee is straight black.

    Anything else is wrong.
